Introductory Letter to Prospective Parents/GuardiansDear Prospective Parents/Guardians: Thank you for your interest in our school. In continuous operation since 1962, Manor is a small, private, locally and regionally accredited, college preparatory, non-religious affiliated institution for Kindergarten through Grade Twelve. Classes are limited in size, and are designed for optimum learning and teaching opportunities. Our philosophy promotes a structured yet supportive, extended family-type atmosphere based on maximum student/teacher effort and involvement. Teachers are degreed and qualified in their subject/age areas, and are expected to be aware of each student's academic, social and emotional needs. Discipline is firm, fair, and as consistent as humanly possible. Students learn accountability for their decisions and behaviors. Independence, responsibility and individuality are fostered, so strictness is tempered with genuine concern as well as constructive, positive counseling and role-modeling. Agreement with our disciplinary philosophy and student expectations creates a strong commitment to school/ home "team work", the essential ingredient of mutual respect, cooperation and healthy growth. If this description agrees with your educational philosophies and goals for your child/teen, we would be happy to schedule a visitation, interview and academic assessment. For Grades 1-12, the interview/assessment is with the Headmistress, student and parent(s) to discuss the child/teenager as a person, family member, student and thinker, and to determine reading competency. After a question/ answer period about the school, a final acceptance/enrollment decision is made, and the student is invited to visit for a day if he/she has not already done so. For kindergarten students, there is a brief session with the child and classroom teacher to assess maturity, verbal skills and ability to follow directions, and/or a summer school session which orients the child for a comfortable Fall entrance. Every effort is made to establish an open, honest relationship so that both student and school needs are met. Enrollment information is enclosed; please review it and contact us for any questions you have. Please complete and return the yellow forms; retain blue and/or green forms for your records. We look forward to hearing from you and having you and your child/teen become a part of our Manor Family.
