The Manor School's Philosophy And ObjectivesThe Manor School is a private, nonprofit, tax-exempt, non-religious affiliated, college prepa-ratory educational institution which provides optimum holistic learning opportunities. Enrollment is made available to persons of all racial, religious, national, socioeconomic and ethnic origins possessing the requisite ability, attitude, motivation and moral character in Kindergarten through Grade Twelve. In addition to academic preparation, one of Manor's goals is to promote citizenship and community involvement through academic courses, special activities, enrichment programs, leadership activities, Peer Mediation Training, and student/teacher interaction. Students gain a sense of responsibility, an awareness of group dynamics, and the ability to make decisions amidst conflicting opinions and attitudes. Through this internal structure and its graduates, Manor helps revitalize the community with young professionals and leaders. All of Manor's goals are keyed to quality, not quantity. The student population is limited in number so that the student/teacher ratio fosters quality education. Students are enrolled based on their verbal intelligence, motivation, attitude, demonstrated reading ability and their parents' cooperation and commitment to the school's philosophy, policies and procedures. The interview process is lengthy and specifically designed to learn as much as possible about the student as a family member, individual, student and citizen. This procedure reflects the school's philosophy that if the student is industrious, capable, cooperative and intelligent, and if the parents' and school's educational goals and disciplinary philosophy are mutually compatible, then the Staff can provide the best education for that particular student, and the student can become a contributing member of the school community. This fosters an open, honest, clearly defined relationship among parent, student and school from the initial commitment. The school diligently works to maintain this type of relationship, and helps students develop academically, socially and emotionally. This development is fostered through an extended family-type atmosphere, small to moderate sized classes, close interpersonal relationships, and strongly committed professional faculty members. Each student learns to function in a challenging yet comfort-able learning atmosphere. When a student is confident, comfortable and feels worthwhile, his/her maximum potential can be developed, and both internal and external resources to achieve individual and academic success can be utilized. Manor promotes this positive overall growth and development of each student, so that the maturation process reaches its conclusion in a well-rounded, communicative, responsible, responsive, evaluative, compassionate, intellectually curious person and citizen. |
