Topics:

  • 1st Marking Period: General Caribbean History

  • 2nd Marking Period: Virgin Islands History

  • 3rd Marking Period: Virgin Islands Current Event or Issue

  • 4th Marking Period: British Literature
    Literary analysis of a particular literary work or comparision between two or more literary pieces

Evaluation:

  • Rough Draft - 5 pts.

  • Correct Title page and folder - 5 pts.

  • Thesis statement - 5 pts.

  • Outline - 5 pts.

  • Introduction - 20 pts.

  • Body - 20 pts.

  • Conclusion - 20 pts.

  • Sources Cited (within) - 10 pts.

  • Works Cited - 10 pts.

Requirements:

  • Length: 6-7 pages

  • Sources: Minimum of 5, not dated over 10 years

  • Mechanics:

    • Title page

    • Thesis statement page

    • Outline page  

    • Font:  Times New Roman  

    • Font size:  12

    • One inch margins from top to bottom

    • 1.25 inches left to right

    • Do not justify

    • Paragraphs are indented 5 spaces or one tab

    • Two spaces after a period or a colon

    • One space after a comma, semi-colon, or word

    • No contractions

    • Use the word one instead of you

    • No first person – no we, us, our, I, me – This is a formal research paper, not a theme or esssay

    • Do not begin a sentence with it, he, she, they, etc. unless there is a reference in the sentence to the he, she, it, etc.

    • Do not throw away any research until the Works Cited is completed and checked.  Please make sure you have authors’ names, days, years, and page numbers, especially if you are using newspapers.  No Wikipedia.

    • Some of the work on these papers will be conducted out of class; some in class.  Students will not be excused from class to type their papers.

    • Each one is due at the end of each marking period!
